UK incumbent BT has promoted Olivia Garfield, its group director of strategy and regulatory affairs, to CEO of its local access network business Openreach.
Garfield will replace Steve Robertson, who has led Openreach since its foundation in 2005.
Group CEO Ian Livingston praised Robertson’s “tremendous” achievements at the helm of Openreach, which operates separately from BT to ensure all users of the incumbent’s network are given equal and open access.
“[Robertson] decided a while ago that, after six years running Openreach, it was time to pass over to someone else to take the business on to the next stage of transformation,” said Livingston.
Garfield, a vocal endorser of public private partnerships, will assume her new position on 1 April.
Sean Williams, who heads strategy for BT’s retail division, has been appointed to replace her as BT’s group strategy director.
