Rumours that Franco-American equipment vendor Alcatel-Lucent may be a takeover target for a Chinese firm have re-surfaced once again.
Reuters reports that shares in the company rose 11% on market talk of a potential bid from a Chinese company. One trader reportedly said there were some very vague Chinese bid rumours, but also mentioned a successful management roadshow in the US to explain the share rise. The report also cited a positive note from Barclays Capital which has boosted Alcatel-Lucent’s stock.
Alcatel-Lucent’s main Chinese rivals are Huawei and ZTE.
Alcatel-Lucent declined to comment.
