US cableco AT&T has appointed John Stephens as its new CFO, replacing Rick Lindner, who is retiring.
Stephens has worked at AT&T for 19 years. Since 2001, he has been the company’s “Controller”, a role which includes financial reporting, business planning and accounting.
Lindner has served as CFO at AT&T since 2004. The company said that he would retire on 1 June.
AT&T’s chairman and CEO, Randall Stephenson, said: “Rick is a world-class CFO who has done a remarkable job of positioning AT&T as one of the most financially strong companies in telecom.
“Rick and John have worked together closely for more than 15 years, and we expect a seamless transition.”
AT&T’s net income in 2010 was US$19.9bn, an increase of 63.7% on the previous year. It also added 2.8 million wireless subscribers to bring its customer base up to over 95 million people.
