French mobile operators Free Mobile and Orange announced they have signed a national roaming agreement for their 2G networks in France.
The operators also added they would extend the agreement to their 3G network.
The agreement will become effective once Free Mobile’s network covers 25% of the French population. Under the terms of its licence, its network has to reach at least 90% of the population by 2018.
Iliad’s Free Mobile, which won its 3G licence in February 2010, is expected to launch services in January 2012.
France Telecom is reportedly expected to gain more than E1bn over five years from the agreement.
