Three members of Thai state-owned telco TOT’s 12-person board have resigned, according to local media reports.
Citing an unnamed source, the Thai newspaper the Nation reported today that the resignations of Nujchanart Panthawankun, Wanchart Santikulchom and Wanee Thasanamontien would come into effect immediately and that more board members were expected to quit.
According to the newspaper, the move has been seen as an attempt to show unhappiness at the telco’s handling of some issues, including its rollout of a 3G network.
TOT has recently held a tender to select a 3G equipment vendor. The tender was won by the LoxleySamart consortium, which includes Huawei Technologies.
According to the Nation, the consortium bid Bt16.29bn (US$532m), but this was later bargained down to Bt15.999bn (US$522m).
But the tender has been dogged by claims of a lack of fairness.
In February, two potential rival bidders – ZTE and Ericsson – accused TOT of being unfair and unclear about its tender process, after their bids were rejected.
