Naguib Sawiris-controlled Orascom Telecom is to manage number one Lebanese mobile operator Alfa for another year, according to a statement cited by press.
Orascom, which started managing the network in February 2009, will now see its contract last until 1 February 2012.
Orascom Telecom Lebanon Chairman and CEO Marwan Hayek welcomed the renewal, saying his company intended to “support the Lebanese mobile sector in regaining its pioneering position in the region, in line with the ambitious plan set by the Lebanese Ministry of Telecom.
Lebanon has been set to introduce 3G licences since 2009.
