Mexican operator America Movil may look at Polish mobile operator Polkomtel, while moving away from the privatisation of Telekom Srbija, Reuters reports quoting CEO Daniel Hajj.
Hajj reportedly said that he was thinking about bidding for Polkomtel but was thinking about not bidding for Telekom Srbija.
He reportedly also said that he would decide next week whether to bid for Polkomtel.
Indicative bids for the Polish mobile operator are due by 21 February with due diligence expected to start in early March, according to newswire reports. Telecoms specialists have valued the operator at E4bn.
The names of a number of potential buyers have been circulating since last year. The Blackstone/TPG consortium is advised by Credit Suisse, JPMorgan and Raiffeisen Investment, Apax has selected Morgan Stanley, Bain Capital is with BNP Paribas and TeliaSonera is working with BoA Merrill Lynch. Orascom Telecom, Telefonica, Telenor, CVC and Providence have also been mentioned as potentially interested.
For Telekom Srbija, bids for a 51% stake are due by March 21.
In addition to America Movil, Deutsche Telekom (advised by Goldman Sachs), Telekom Austria (advised by Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Lazard and Raiffeisen Investment), VimpelCom, Wind Telecom (advised by Moelis & Company) and Turkcell have shown an interest in the process. But France Telecom dropped out last month.
The starting price for the stake has been set at E1.4bn.
If the authorities receive several offers, an auction will take place in front of television cameras.
The Serbian government owns 80% of Telekom Srbija while Deutsche Telekom-owned OTE holds the rest.
America Movil was not immediately available for comments.
