Malaysian incumbent Telekom Malaysia announced on February 11 that it will be part of a group of companies that build a new fibre-optic cable connecting Indonesia with Malaysia.
TM said it will collaborate with the Indonesian mobile operator XL Axiata and infrastructure provider on the project, which is due to start carrying commercial traffic in Q4 2014.
This is the second major cable project that TM has announced in recent weeks.
On 31 January, it announced that it will be working with Japanese telco NTT Communications to build a cable linking Japan and Hong Kong to Malaysia.
