Japanese cellco NTT Docomo has announced it will soon start making field experiments of LTE-Advanced technologies in the cities of Yokosuka and Sagamihara.
The operator received a pre-licence at the end of January for the testing of this improved version of LTE and is expecting to soon receive the full licences.
“DOCOMO has already confirmed the performance of LTE-Advanced technologies using radio environment simulators in its R&D center, achieving transmission data rates of approximately 1 Gbps in the downlink and 200 Mbps in the uplink,” a company statement read.
Docomo was the first to launch LTE in Japan at the very end of last year. Recently, several companies in Asia have announced their intentions to rollout 4G technology, including local rival KDDI but also South Korean cellco SK Telecom.
