Only two consortia of equipment vendors bidding for Thai mobile operator TOT’s Bt20bn (US$650m) 3G tender remain in the running after two others failed to meet technical criteria, according to reports.
Citing an unnamed TOT executive, Dow Jones Newswires claims the two remaining bidders are a consortium including Samart, Loxley, Huawei, and NSN, and a group comprising United Communication Industry, Advanced Information Technology, and Alcatel-Lucent.
Separate reports claim vendors Ericsson and ZTE have accused TOT of being unfair and unclear about its tender process, after their bids were rejected from the auction.
ZTE is reportedly calling on Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva to investigate its disqualification.
TOT will conduct the auction on 28 January, aiming to confirm a winning bidder around 17 February, the report added.
The 3G project is split into three stages: Bt17.5bn (US$570m) for procurement of network equipment; Bt540m (US$17.5m) as a reserve; and Bt2bn (US$65m) to upgrade TOT’s 3G network in Bangkok
TOT was unable to comment before the press deadline.
