The Chilean Supreme Court has rejected an appeal by Chilean telco Movistar against a fine for abusing its position of dominance in the domestic broadband market.
In a decision announced yesterday, the Supreme Court upheld the decision by the Chilean competition tribunal (TLDC) to fine Telefonica-owned Movistar Ps2.25bn (US$4.6m).
The court also ruled that Movistar would need to offer a package of broadband alone to its customers, instead of bundling it with fixed telephone services, as this was an example of Movistar abusing its dominant position and hurting the wider IP telephony market.
