The British Virgin Islands’ Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) has started an investigation into alleged anti-competitive behaviour by Caribbean telco LIME.
According to a TRC announcement yesterday, the investigation will concern the pricing of calls and termination services to other LIME destinations in the Caribbean.
The complaint was raised by rival telco Caribbean Cellular Telephone (CCT).
In the statement, the TRC said that the complaint concerned CCT’s ability to replicate LIME’s plans for calling within the Caribbean.
It said: “It is alleged that this is due to the relatively high price LIME charges CCT for calls from CCT customers to reach LIME destinations in the Caribbean, compared to the price LIME charges its own customers to make such calls.”
Interested parties have been invited to submit their comments or objections by 7 February 2011.
CCT was unavailable for comment. LIME was unable to reply before the press deadline.
