Thai mobile operator TOT will auction 3G equipment and installation contracts worth THB17.44bn (US$580.8m) on 28 January, according to reports translating a press release.
Citing Kamthon Waithayakul, VP of the state-owned group, reports state that it plans to announce contract winners on 15-18 February.
The announcement comes as several cellcos have reportedly applied for MVNO licences on TOT’s 3G network.
Thailand’s Advanced Info Service (AIS) already holds an MVNO licence, and has recently said it plans to provide commercial 3G services in partnership with TOT.
Meanwhile, other unconfirmed reports suggest TOT chairman Areepong Bhoocha-oom intends to review his role at the group if its network expansion project fails to run on schedule.
TOT could not be reached before going to press.
