France Telecom has won a two-year contract to manage state-owned telecoms monopoly Ethio Telecom, according to media reports.
The French company will reportedly receive a E30m fee to expand coverage and introduce new services.
A mere 5% of Ethiopia’s 80 million residents currently own a mobile phone. Ethio Telecom, which is the new name of Ethiopian Telecommunications Corporation, has started building a fibre-optic network.
Neither company was immediately available for comment.
