US-based chipmaker Qualcomm announced yesterday that it has appointed Dr Francisco Ros to its board of directors.
His over 25 years experience in the telecoms industry includes a post as Spanish Secretary of State between April 2004 and July 2010, during which time he oversaw the national IT development programme and managed Spain’s transition from analogue to digital terrestrial television.
Before this, Ros had worked as managing director for Qualcomm Spain and general manager for Telefonica International at the time when the company started its expansion in Latin America.
Qualcomm’s CEO, Paul E. Jacobs, welcomed Ros’s appointment.
Jacobs said: “His extensive background in the European and global telecommunications industry, spanning from operator relations to the development of Spain’s IT sector, including broadband and mobile coverage, coupled with his continued involvement in wireless communications research, will be highly beneficial to our board and management.”
