France is planning to auction LTE licences in 2011, Eric Busson, Industry, Energy and Digital Economy Minister has been cited saying.
Speaking at the Assises du Numerique Conference on digital technology, he said that the licences would be for spectrum released as part of the Digital Divide.
One condition for existing operators looking to participate would be allowing more MVNOs to run on their networks, he added.
In his speech, he also announced that the government wanted 70% of the country to have access to superfast broadband by 2020, and was prepared to spend E4bn to improve broadband and fibre infrastructure.
