UK video-on-demand service SeeSaw has launched a new subscription model for customers, allowing them to get ad-free TV for a monthly fee.
The ‘Non-stop Live’ service will enable customers to view content produced by the BBC, Channel 4 and Channel 5.
They will need to pay a fee of 99p for the first month and £2.99 a month thereafter.
This came a day after SeeSaw had launched another new service, ‘AdSelector’. This would be a free service with adverts, although viewers would need to pick which adverts they watch, allowing businesses to make more targeted advertising campaigns.
In a statement on its blog on Wednesday, a SeeSaw spokesperson said: “SeeSaw Nonstop does just what it says on the tin – all our free TV without interruptions. That’s all 3500 hours of it (or thereabouts).”
SeeSaw’s announcement comes after news broke earlier this week that BT could be preparing to offer YouView, the IPTV service it is backing along with several other partners, for free. BT did not confirm these rumours.
The IPTV market is set to becoming increasingly crowded in the years ahead, with SeeSaw and YouView competing with the highly successful BBC iPlayer.
