Peruvian telco Winner Systems has won the tender to provide telecoms services in the rural Piura state, according to Peru’s state news service Andina.
With a reported US$15.9m bid, Winner beat off competition from Mexico’s America Movil, Telefonica’s Movistar, US IT services company GLC Solutions and local rival Gamacom.
Nascent group Winner Systems is a JV between local investors and Russian company Mera Networks, winning the tender by being the only candidate to provide both a technical and an economic offer for the project, Peru’s state FDI agency Proinversion said.
The new network will serve 536 localities across Piura state, together with local telephony services in 201 localities, and internet access in 249 localities.
The project is expected to benefit approximately 318,000 people, with the country’s telecoms fund Fitel providing financing for the project, ProInversion said.
The operator is expected to deploy the entire infrastructure, and maintain and operate the network.
Representatives at Winner Systems were not available for comment at the time of going to press.
