The Qatari subsidiary of UK mobile operator Vodafone has appointed its CFO, John Tombleson, as acting chief executive.
Maher, aged 51, died of a heart attack, a spokesperson said.
Vodafone won the bid for Qatar’s second mobile licence in 2007 to break the monopoly of Qatar Telecom.
Maher arrived in the country in 2008 to set up Vodafone Qatar.
