Winner Systems, a new venture in the Peruvian telecommunications sector, has become the frontrunner in the tender for rolling out a rural telecoms system across the country.
The company pushed its way to the head of the line by being the only candidate to provide both a technical and an economic offer for the project, Peru’s state FDI agency Proinversion said.
The winner will build telecoms infrastructure in the Piura state. The project is worth over US$8.7m and will partly by financed by Peru’s state telecoms fund FiTel.
The other pre-qualified parties to have submitted technical, but not economic, bids are America Móvil, part of Mexican Carlos Slim’s telecom businesses, Movistar, part of Spain’s Telefónica, Gamacom, a privately-owned Peruvian telecoms company, and GLC Solutions, a Californian IT services company.
ProInversion is looking to award the contract on October 29.
Ramiro Rodriguez, CEO of Winner Systems, was not available for comment at the time of going to press.
