US mobile operator Verizon Wireless has denied speculation that it is involved in the wireless airwaves auction by Clearwire.
Earlier this week, Bloomberg reported that a number of US telecom majors were interested in Clearwire, the WiMax JV majority-owned by Sprint Nextel’s spectrum auction.
The bidders included AT&T, Verizon and Deutsche Telekom, the report added.
However, a Verizon spokesperson was cited by Reuters confirming that it was not participating in the auction.
Verizon was not available for comment at the time of going to press. Clearwire declined to comment.
