Eight telcos have reportedly placed bids for Iraq’s fourth mobile licence.
UAE-based Etisalat, South Africa’s MTN, Turkcell, Vodafone, Verizon and France Telecom are among the bidders, said Farooq Abdulqader Abdulrahman, Iraq’s the minister of communications reportedly said at a telecoms conference in Dubai.
Operators would not buy the licence at auction but would have to agree to conditions that include setting aside a minimum of 30% of revenues for the government.
“We want to finalise the process by the first quarter of next year,” Abdulrahman said to local newspaper, The National.
