Mobile operator 3 Ireland has been fined E1,500 for overstating subscriber numbers for four years.
The local subsidiary of Hong-Kong-based conglomerate Hutchison Whampoa has also agreed with Irish regulator ComReg to have its subscriber data independently verified for the next 12 months.
A 3 Ireland spokesperson declined to elaborate on the error, but said: “3 is continuing to work closely with ComReg to rectify the error and is currently putting new systems in place, including enhanced corporate governance measures, to ensure that all future reporting is consistent with ComReg’s requirements.”
It is understood that 3 was keen to draw a line under the matter, and this was the most pragmatic way to ensure the business was not distracted by the issue and that the matter was resolved satisfactorily for the company and ComReg.
