UK enterprise telco Cable & Wireless Worldwide’s (CWW) chief strategy officer, Phil Male, is stepping down after being sidelined following the promotion of Ivan Gunatilleke to COO, reported the Sunday Times.
However, a spokesperson told TelecomFinance that Male left to “pursue other opportunities” and the “parting was amicable”.
Male was appointed to the strategy role in October 2008, and Gunatilleke has been COO since January 2010.
The CWW spokesperson was unable to elaborate further.
CWW, and its counterpart Cable & Wireless Communications, have been the subject of intense takeover speculation since plans arose for their demerger from C&W in November 2009.
US mobile operators AT&T and Verizon and Singapore’s SingTel have all been named recently as potential suitors.
