Serbia plans to sell a majority stake in Telekom Srbija by the end of Q1 next year, deputy prime minister Bozidar Djelic was quoted saying in Reuters.
He reportedly said the authorities were about to sell 50% plus one share of the telecoms incumbent, which could raise E1.6bn. He added that Deutsche Telekom as well as European and non-European operators had already expressed an interest in the transaction.
Deutsche Telekom, which already holds 20% of Telekom Srbija through OTE, is well placed to take control of the operator but now that a 50% plus one share will be offered rival candidates are expected to show up. Telenor and Telekom Austria, which are already present in the mobile market, are expected to line up while Telefonica and Libyan state-owned telecoms holding company LAP Green Networks have already expressed their interest.
