British incumbent BT has confirmed that a meeting with leading fixed-line operator China Telecom would take place but said topics discussed would not include M&A.

BT chief information officer Clive Selley’s is flying to China later this week for the World Economic Forum and will meet with several companies, including China Telecom, a BT spokesman was quoted saying.
A few weeks ago, China Telecom was reportedly eyeing acquisitions via its China Telecom Europe (CTE) unit. CTE managing director Yan Ou was quoted as saying that the company was looking to buy an EMEA ICT company in order to give a recognised brand and ICT services to the company’s transmission services. He also said that CTE was looking to add to current partners, which include TeliaSonera International Carrier, T-Systems International and Tinet.
