South African telecom group MTN has unveiled its 2MW tri-generation plant. The plant will power a new building housing data centre and a test switch centre at its head office campus in Johannesburg. This move is also a further step towards easing its dependence on South African electric public utility Eskom.
Several other South African companies have taken steps to generate their own energy in recent months, and these include petrochemicals group Sasol, which aims to produce up to 50% of its own power needs by 2012.
