Indian telecoms group Reliance Communications hopes to launch 3G services by the end of this year, Mahesh Prasad, president of the company’s wireless business, has been reported saying.
Assuming that the Indian government was ready to allocate spectrum by September, Reliance Communications would be able to start rollout by year-end.
The operator paid over US$2.5bn for 3G licences in 13 circles, in the national spectrum auction that closed in June.
To help pay the bill, it is now selling a 26% stake in itself, having agreed a US$11bn towers merger between Reliance Infratel and GTL Infrastructure.
