Information and Communications Minister Samuel Poghisio called, during a telecommunications meeting in Nairobi, for African telecom companies to improve the quality of services they provide to customers, according to a Xinhua report.
“As I speak, the Communications Commission of Kenya is now carrying out comprehensive benchmark measurement for the four mobile operators following the gazattement of mandatory quality of service parameters that licensees have to meet,” the minister told the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) meeting in Nairobi. “The industry has enormous potential for further growth given that half of the populations in our countries are yet to be covered. The future of the telecoms in Africa is therefore quite rosy,” he added, according to the Daily Nation.
Mr Poghisio also urged African ICT groups to be stricter when vetting equipment that gets into the continent in order to help deal with electronic waste, reports Xinhua.
The Kenyan Ministry of Information and Communications was not immediately available for comment when contacted.
