Djit Laowattana, one of TOT’s board directors admitted that his company had no idea how to run a network, but when Thailand’s 2G mobile concessions are converted to full-blown licences TOT will have no choice but to do so.
When Laowattana was asked by the Bangkok Post about TOT’s preparations for the enlargement of its role, he said: “It came as a shock because TOT has no readiness in this area”.
TOT itself will not be allowed to enter the auction for 3G wireless broadband licences because it already has 3G spectrum on the 2.1GHz bandwidth and is providing a 3G service through subsidiary Thai Mobile.
