French telecom equipment maker Alcatel-Lucent will be laying a 1,800km submarine cable between Venezuela and Cuba by the close of the second quarter 2011, the company announced today.
The value of the contract signed between the company and Telecomunicaciones Gran Caribe – a JV between the Venezuelan and Cuban governments – was not released.
The cable will consist of two segments, one linking Cuba to Venezuela and the other between Cuba and Jamaica.
