Bids to acquire Australian operator AAPT from Telecom New Zealand are due in this week, with TPG Telecom reportedly the favourite.
According to local reports, Telecom NZ looks well set to secure the purchase over its rival bidders Pacnet, Optus and private equity firm Quadrangle. Australian fibre-optics services provider Amcom and Vodafone Hutchison Australia have also been tipped to try and acquire all or parts of AAPT, for which final bids are due on July 16. Goldman Sachs JBWere is understood to be managing the sale of AAPT.
In 2009 the company generated A$760m (US$700m) in revenue, down from AU$1bn on the previous year. EBITDA was also down by A$27m and stood at A$73m.
AAPT is Australia’s third largest fixed-line operator.
