Israel’s ECI Telecom has been awarded a contract to partner BT Openreach in the UK company’s project to improve its broadband infrastructure.
The contract is said to be worth around US$800m and will see ECI aid Openreach in its efforts to reach 18 million British homes and businesses by 2015, using state of the art fibre to the premise technologies.
ECI will assist with next generation network optimisation, including reduced risk in capital investment choices, increased scalability to meet growing bandwidth requirements and improved revenue growth via additional sources.
Openreach CEO Steve Robertson said: “ECI’s offerings are in line with our vision of a straightforward, more integrated and competitive network, simplifying management and supporting the optimization of our next-generation access network in an environmentally-friendly and responsible way.”
