Tata Teleservices is close to mandating an equipment vendor to roll out and manage its 3G network in India.
According to Dow Jones, Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Huawei, Nokia Siemens Networks and ZTE are all vying for the contract, which will be awarded shortly, once the government has cleared legislation on network equipment.
Tata Teleservices has a licence to operate 3G services in nine of India’s 22 operating circles.
Equipment vendors are set for a period of intense competition as Indian operators begin to implement their 3G networks.
