American electronics retailer Best Buy is set to sell mobile broadband starting in July, according to blog Engadget.com. Best Buy Connect will compete with mobile broadband services offered by wireless device vendors such as Apple and telecoms operators.
The brand will be available with or without a contract, reportedly running on the Sprint Nextel network.
Speaking to analysts on a recent earnings call, Best Buy chief executive Brian Dunn noted that “Customers are really beginning to live the connected world in tablet computing. As the industry’s leading retailer of mobile computers, we can’t wait to see what new innovation this category brings and the opportunities to provide value added features like broadband connections.”
