China Telecom (HKG:0728) chairman and CEO Chang Xiaobing reportedly resigned on 30 December and was replaced on an interim basis by president and COO Yang Jie .
According to a statement cited by Bloomberg, the country’s Central Commission for Discipline Inspection is investigating Chang for possible corruption amid a broader crackdown under President Xi Jinping involving over 100,000 officials.
Prior to a state-led management reshuffle of the telecoms sector in August, Chang had been chairman of China Unicom since 2004, and before that had held government telecom roles.
The state has also led the creation of a tower joint venture pooling the infrastructure of China Telecom, China Unicom and China Mobile.
