Kevin Russell, the head of Australian telecoms and satellite operator Optus, will leave the company on 31 March 2014.
Paul O’Sullivan, the group consumer CEO at parent company Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel), will replace him on an interim basis. O’Sullivan previously led Optus until 2012.
Russell, a former UK’s Hutchison Three CEO, joined Optus two years ago. Commenting on his departure, O’Sullivan said: “Several months ago Kevin told me that he wished to move on to other challenges on completion of [repositioning the company].”
Optus is Australia’s second-largest mobile operator and provides satellite services. Earlier this month, it signed a five-year agreement with Australia’s national broadband network operator NBN Co to operate its two Ka-band satellites that are due for launch in 2015.
