Nawras already holds Oman’s second mobile phone licence. When Qtel acquired the mobile phone licence, Oman became the company’s first market outside Qatar. Since then, Qtel has expanded across the Middle East and into South-East Asia.
Its most dramatic expansion came in March 2007 when it acquired a controlling stake in Kuwaiti company Wataniya. The Wataniya acquisition gave Qtel management control of operators in Algeria, Kuwait, Palestine, Tunisia and (after a campaign to win over the minority shareholders) Iraq.
Nawras will offer services including fixed-line broadband, non-geographical telephone numbers and free calls within companies for business customers buying both mobile and fixed-line connections from Nawras.
