Italian media group Mediaset’s digital terrestrial television unit is reportedly receiving potential bidding interest from foreign players.
Russian investors and the Sheik of Qatar are among those cited by local reports as being interested in buying the group, which has been struggling to compete in Italy with News Corp’s Sky Italia DTH firm.
Mediaset, which was quoted back in July saying that it was receiving expressions of interest for potential pay-TV partnerships, was unable to comment on the speculation before the press deadline.
Reports suggest that the Mediaset group has also been attracting interest from several foreign TV players, and that Qatari investors are considering buying assets from its parent company Fininvest.
