August is a vital month for satellite operator Intelsat with three of its satellites being launched by three different launch services providers. First up is Intelsat-20, which is due to be launched alongside Avanti’s Hylas-2 satellite on 2 August. This is then followed by Intelsat-21 on a Sea Launch Zenit 3SL rocket in the middle of the month; and finally International Launch Services’ launch of Intelsat-23 is expected to take place at the end of the August.
All three satellites were insured under the seven satellite launch-plus-one package deal that Intelsat secured from Aon / ISB back in 2010. Indeed, Intelsat-23 will be the last of that package to be launched. The satellite operator currently has a couple more satellites under construction and industry sources speculated that these would like to also be insured in a package placement, albeit a much smaller one.
