Greek telecom incumbent OTE has launched its first DTH platform in the country, OTE TV. Services will be transmitted via Eutelsat’s Eurobird-9A at 9E.
Back in February, OTE had been quoted saying it would set up a satellite pay-TV platform to provide the same services as its IPTV group Conn-x TV, but with additional and HD channels.
The Greek market is currently home to another DTH platform, Nova Greece, which operates from Eutelsat’s Hot Bird 9 positioned at 13E.
It had been suggested, a few years ago, that local satellite operator Hellas Sat, which is majority-owned by OTE, had submitted an application to the Greek National Council for Radio and Television (NCRTV) to set up a DTH satellite platform. But an OTE spokeswoman told SatelliteFinance in late August that the company was not currently operating a DTH platform in the country.
Outside of Greece, OTE controls Romanian satellite platform Dolce via local telecom incumbent Romtelecom, in which it owns a 54.01% stake.
