Asia Broadcast Satellite (ABS) and SpaceCom International, a satellite services provider in the Middle East and Asia, have signed an agreement for Ku-band capacity on ABS-7 (Koreasat-3).
SpaceCom, based in the US, is planning to use that capacity to expand in these regions with a focus on government, military, GSM/cellular, telecom, and oil & gas requirements.
“This capacity will support our current backlog and future expansion plans that have been delayed due to the limitation of resources throughout the region,” said Matt DeNapoli, SpaceCom CEO, in a statement.
In separate news, ISB won, at the end of last year, the tender to place the launch plus one insurance placement for ABS’ forthcoming ABS-2 satellite.
The broker was expected to be in the market shortly, as ABS is thought to be looking to move the process along.
The satellite operator was also believed to be in the process of securing a US$250m high-yield bond, which would be used to fund the new SS/L built bird. The satellite, to be located at 75E, is scheduled to become operational in 2013.
