The VSAT division of Lunasat Offshore has merged with Lebanese internet services provider IDMH’s subsidiary, IDMI Sal Offshore and Communications Network Services Inc, to establish a new company, Lunasat-IDMI. Financial details were not disclosed.
Ziad Monia, chief executive of Lunasat, said: “This merger represents a pooling of the expertise of two key service providers well established in the Middle East and Africa regions, in an effort to develop and offer competitive turnkey solutions in satellite communications, benefits and services to our respective clients and partners alike.” Beirut-based Lunasat is a satellite services player and a system integrator that provides services to governments, institutions, corporations, GSM operators and end-users in the MENA region.
IDMI is currently Lebanon’s largest ISP with about 60% of the residential and corporate broadband services market. The company formed its offshore business at the end of 2004, offering VSAT-based services in the region by utilising capacity on the Arabsat-2b and -5a satellites, Intelsat 10-02 and -901 and NSS-6 and -7.
