ISB has won the mandate to place the launch-plus-one insurance for Globalstar’s next generation LEO constellation.
The 24 satellite second generation system, which is being constructed by Thales Alenia Space, is slated to be launched over the next two years on Arianespace’s Soyuz rocket in four launches of six satellites each. The insurance is expected to be placed in single package deal covering all four of the launches.
A technical briefing on the new constellation is due to take place in Rome on January 28 with the insurance package hitting the market in the first quarter. The first batch of six satellites are due to be launched in the summer 2010.
ISB placed the launch insurance for the eight spare satellites that Globalstar launched in 2007, while Willis was the broker for the original constellation that was launched between 1998 and 2000.
