South African giant MTN (JNB:MTN) has appointed new CEOs for its Republic of Congo and Benin subsidiaries, the company confirmed, without specifying start dates.
Stephen Blewett will head up MTN Benin, having most recently held the role of CCO at MTC Namibia, according to his LinkedIn profile. He has previously worked at Telkom Mobile, Altech Autopage Cellular, Mcel and Vodacom in South Africa and Mozambique.
Djibril Oattara, who will lead MTN Republic of Congo, moves from Atlantique Telecom Togo, where he was managing director. Etisalat this year sold its Atlantique portfolio of West African telcos to Maroc Telecom in a company-by-company transaction.
France’s Orange is currently in talks to acquire four West African businesses from Airtel, in Sierra Leone, Burkina Faso, the Republic of Congo (Congo-Brazzaville) and Chad.
In July, the company appointed Mteto Nyati as the new CEO of its South African business, replacing Ahmad Farroukh, who became CEO of Mobily, Etisalat’s Saudi business.
MTN, which is present in 22 countries, said in its Q2 results this month that it has 231 million subscribers.
