Vodafone (LON:VOD) Europe CEO Philipp Humm is to leave the company later this year, it announced today.
Humm, who led fixed-line acquisitions in the UK, Spain and Germany, leaves amid talks between Vodafone and cable giant Liberty Global (NASDAQ:LBTYA) about a possible asset swap likely to involve the UK and Germany.
If such a transaction proved too complicated, the parties could consider a wider ranging European deal, one banker suggested.
Group CEO Vittorio Colao said: “I would like to thank Philipp for his significant contribution to Vodafone including leading the recovery in our European businesses and the strategic acquisition and integration of large fixed-line businesses in the UK, Spain and Germany. I fully understand his desire to pursue his career ambitions outside Vodafone in light of the new organisation and wish him all the best for the future.”
The CEOs heading up the company’s largest European markets will report directly to Colao and join the group executive committee starting on 1 October.
The CEOs are Hannes Ametsreiter (Germany), Aldo Bisio (Italy), Jeroen Hoencamp (UK) and Antonio Coimbra (Spain). Netherlands CEO Rob Shuter, who will also join the committee and report to Colao, will take responsibility for Vodafone’s smaller European markets (Ireland, Czech Republic, Hungary and Romania).
According to Colao, these changes “will simplify and streamline management…and accelerate our strategic plans in those countries as convergence gathers pace…”.
