China Unicom plans to launch a Yn4bn (US$644.4m) promissory note issue on 12 June, its first this year.
Fully-owned subsidiary China United Network Communications Corporation Limited (CUCL) will issue the notes, which will have three-year maturities, the state-owned mobile operator said in a filing with the Shanghai Clearing House.
The issue is expected to be completed on 15 June, when the final coupon will be announced.
Last December, China Unicom – China’s second-largest wireless player after China Mobile – issued a Yn5bn (US$813m), three-year promissory note with a 4.2% coupon via CUCL. The issue marked the third and final tranche of its promissory note programme for 2014.
China Unicom and number three mobile player China Telecom both received 4G licences in February. China Mobile got its 4G licence in late 2013 and, by the end of January this year, had already amassed 106.8 million 4G subscribers.
