Liberty Global has shifted Betzalel Kenigsztein from his role as managing director of its central and eastern European businesses to president and chief operating officer of its Latin American and Caribbean unit.
Kenigsztein will work with group CEO Mike Fries on developing strategic opportunities in the region, and will also manage VTR and Liberty Cablevision, the company’s respective Chilean and Puerto Rican units.
Earlier this year, Liberty referred to the potential for consolidation in the region.
“Betzalel was born in Argentina and is ideally positioned for this new role with more than 25 years of experience in the cable industry and a proven track record at Liberty Global,” the company said in a statement.
The appointment comes as Liberty Global intends to implement a tracking stock for its LatAm and Caribbean unit on 1 July 2015. Fries has previously said the tracking stock “would create a pure-play investment vehicle in Latin America and the Caribbean, positioning us to enhance long-term shareholder value and create additional strategic flexibility and optionality”.
Today Fries said: “We are committed to growing our business in the Latin American and Caribbean region through the … tracking stock, and Betzalel brings extensive strategic and operational knowledge to this new role.”
The company said it had yet to announce Kenigsztein’s successor in central and eastern Europe.
