Israeli incumbent Bezeq should be forced to sell its service and content business, becoming an infrastructure-only company, outgoing communications minister Gilad Erdan has said.
The official will soon present a bill to the Knesset demanding such a move, reports Globes.
Accusing Bezeq of being a “powerful monopoly”, he said the company had taken “every possible step to mire and delay implementation of a reform” aimed at lowering costs to consumers. Therefore the only way to resolve the situation is to “bind” the operator, leaving it as a pure infrastructure company, he was cited saying.
The split, which has been tabled before, reportedly comes after prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu dismissed Erdan appointee Avi Berger, the ministry of communications director general. Erdan has, according to several Israeli news sources, been passed over for cabinet posts in the new government.
Bezeq was not available for comment by press time.
