French media conglomerate Vivendi is considering an acquisition of UK pay-TV group Sky, reports Reuters. It has yet to make a decision about whether to go ahead, and has not approached the company, the report said.
Vivendi has reportedly reviewed pay-TV targets in Turkey and other European markets.
The report valued Sky, which has a market cap of £17.6bn, at £28bn including debt.
Vivendi has nearly exited telecoms investments in France, Brazil and Morocco, with a view to focusing on media and content. It has 8.3% of voting shares in Telecom Italia, which is widely seen as a financial rather than a strategic investment.
Spokespeople for Vivendi and Sky were not immediately available for comment.
